World Candle Month – September

Candles have been part of human life for thousands of years. The earliest candles were simple—people in ancient times used reeds or sticks soaked in animal fat to create light. This was long before electricity made lighting easy and convenient.

Around 3000 BC, the ancient Egyptians began using candles made from beeswax. Beeswax was cleaner and smelled better than animal fat, making these early candles a big improvement. The Romans also made significant advancements, using tallow (animal fat) and creating molds for more uniform shapes.

Candles were not only used for light but also had spiritual and symbolic meanings. They played a role in religious ceremonies, celebrations, and rituals around the world. For example, in many cultures, lighting a candle symbolizes hope, remembrance, or guidance.

Fast forward to modern times, candles have transformed from a practical necessity to decorative and mood-enhancing items. With this growing appreciation, the idea of celebrating a whole month dedicated to candles was born. World Candle Month – September is a recent tradition that encourages everyone to slow down, light a candle, and enjoy the calming glow.
